How Did Eileen from Corrie Lose Weight? Check Out the Details of the Weight Loss of Sue Cleaver from Coronation Street!

Sue Cleaver (@officialsuecleaver), best known as Eileen from Corrie, had one of the most impressive and transformative weight loss a few years ago wherein she lost three stones after following one of the most popular diets out there. Those were some serious pounds she shed because she did so in an effort to be heath-conscious after she was diagnosed with diabetes.

In 2011, when Eileen from Corrie was ready to play her part in the series, on the set of Coronation Street, she just passed out. According to a bystander, she was beginning to look pretty off at 9 am and all of a sudden, just as the cast members were getting ready for filming, she just collapsed. An ambulance was called immediately and she was taken to a hospital where she found that she had diabetes. After that, she overhauled her diet and started focusing on her fitness for health purposes which ended up being the reason for Sue Cleaver’s weight loss.

The actress is said to have begun her weight loss journey in 2016 and in 2019, she reportedly dropped from a size 16 to a size 12 after being on the Mediterranean diet for three years. Eileen from Corrie had a totally new and slimmer and healthier look to her in that size she hasn’t been in since she was 30, and viewers just couldn’t get enough of that. She really made the best of the situation. After she was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, which is a condition in which a person’s blood sugar (glucose) levels become too high, she made changes to her diet and it was the best thing she ever did because now Sue Cleaver is healthier and fitter than ever.

The Mediterranean diet that changed Eileen from Corrie we know to a different person is recommended for a diabetic person by Diabetes UK which claims that there is evidence that the meal plan does not just improve blood glucose management in those with Type 2 diabetes but also promotes weight loss. Reportedly, the Mediterranean diet is linked to a reduced risk of high blood pressure and cholesterol and it can provide a great option for diabetic people as it could help reduce the risk of health complications they face.

Because it is important to stick to a healthy diet alongside medication for a diabetic person and weight is also a factor, so being active and fit is also necessary, Sue Cleaver embarked on the weight loss journey which changed her from Eileen from Corrie to the gorgeous and much fitter star from I’m a Celebrity. It was not just diabetes, she was also unhappy with the figure she saw in the bathroom scales, which is why she was motivated to make a change.

She wanted change, so she made the change, and then Sue Cleaver was better for it. She changed her lifestyle (in terms of change in her diet and addition of a fitness regime) and weight loss really changed the quality of her life. For someone who was a ‘self-confessed foodie,’ for someone who admitted that over-indulgence was her Achilles Heel, it was the best thing. We can’t be anything but happy for our Eileen from Corrie for how easier the Mediterranean diet was to follow as there were no strict rules.

Sure, Sue Cleaver was in her mid-50s when she decided to make the changes, so it was pretty much a no-brainer that she had to cut down on certain things for her health but even then, the Mediterranean diet was pleasing to follow because it was mostly easier than expected of a diet. There are some limitations but mostly, it is high in vegetables, fruits, legumes, nuts, beans, cereals, grains, fish and unsaturated fats such as olive oil and usually includes a low intake of meat and dairy foods, which is a lot of options. So, yay for Eileen from Corrie for getting healthier and having that weight loss without strictly cutting back on everything.

Everyone wants to live a long, happy, and healthy life, so weight loss and keeping it off was not just important for Sue Cleaver but also for men in her life who loved her – her partner and her son Elliot. I’m sure that they are proud of what Eileen from Corrie achieved what she did as a patient with diabetes with a Mediterranean diet. Stressing the importance of a proper diet, she spoke in support of Diabetes Week and said,

Having good control of diabetes is really important. After all, people with the condition live with it every day, taking care of their diet and physical activity.

Eileen from Corrie recently lost weight again during her time in the jungle while on I’m A Celebrity in 2022. No wonder she lost weight. What else can you expect would come from those meager camp meals? However, this weight loss can be worrying because it was not a healthy one. It’s highly unlikely that Sue Cleaver followed the Mediterranean diet in the Australian jungle. It was probably just a grueling diet of rice and beans. It has been widely reported that celebs participating in the reality television show are given just 700 calories a day in rations to eat unless they win stares in their daily tasks. She lost weight that way.

Now that Sue Cleaver is out, she can have proper food and continue with her healthy diet.
