houseandwhips.com – Mariska Hargitay was not very open-minded about plastic surgery growing up but as time went on, she realized that there was nothing wrong with women getting little tweaks if they wanted. She herself seems to have dabbled in Botox and fillers on cheeks and lips. However, Mariska Hargitay hasn’t opened up about her plastic surgery.
Mariska Hargitay is a household name and face which is all thanks to the culturally pervasive and iconic role of Olivia Benson on the NBC drama series Law & Order: Special Victims Unit which was also her breakthrough role. You might not remember it but the daughter of actress Jayne Mansfield and bodybuilder and actor Mickey Hargitay made her debut in the entertainment industry with an appearance in the music video of She Loves My Car by Ronnie Milsap.
Mariska Hargitay also did a horror comedy film Ghoulies and in 1986, she got her first leading role in the crime drama series Downtown. She played the recurring role of Carly Fixx in Falcon Crest and made appearances in numerous films and television series throughout the 1980s and 1990s till she got her breakthrough role. She has come a long way since then. So, let’s talk about her plastic surgery now?
Previously, we touched on the plastic surgery stories of Doja Cat and Annie January.

The Law & Order: SVU star is a household face who has been in the public eye for decades. Has being a public figure pressured her to maintain her looks and opt for cosmetic procedures to do so? What does she think about getting cosmetic work done? Is she open-minded about it or is she someone who would get it but always insist that they haven’t had any work? What are her views on plastic surgery and how has she held on to her views practically?
Well, as it turns out, Mariska Hargitay was initially against getting cosmetic surgery because growing up, she was influenced by her father who didn’t even like makeup but as time went on, she went on to develop her own opinions on going under the knife and become more open-minded about the whole thing. She became more accepting of plastic surgery. As she said in an interview with Ladies Home Journal in 2013,
I used to be against it. I think it’s because I was raised by a father who didn’t like makeup. If I had makeup on he’d say, ‘Honey, you didn’t wash your face!’ But now that I’m older, I think women should do whatever they want to make themselves feel good. I don’t think they should go overboard, and I still think the natural look is the most beautiful. But if you want to do something to help you look more refreshed, I’m all for it.
Mariska Hargitay may have had a change in opinions about plastic surgery because of the countless rejections she faced because of her looks. Most of her 20s were spent getting rejected by casting directors in the audition because she was not tall enough, pretty enough, blonde enough, or because her nose was too big or too small, or because her skin was too dark or light. I think she realized that you can’t really win with your looks as a woman so, cosmetic surgery should not be looked down upon.

It’s nice to see a woman develop an open mind about one of the most stigmatizing but trendy things and be supportive of it. However, for someone who has been accepting of cosmetic procedures, she sure has been kind of secretive about the work she has had, and by the way, yeah, she has had work done on her face. Look at her and it’s not so hard to figure out because she looks very young and her face too smooth and wrinkleless for her age! Mariska Hargitay has definitely had plastic surgery.
As someone pointed out on a Reddit thread, she is less emotive than before and it’s because she experimented with Botox. She also has a much rounder and fuller face which is most likely due to dermal fillers. She seems to have injected her lips with fillers as well because she always had thin lips which are not the same anymore. These procedures are non-invasive but it definitely counts as plastic surgery.
About the procedures that Mariska Hargitay has had, a Redditor said,
I’d guess she’s had Botox in her forehead because it never moves in the last 10 years or so. Also looks like she had some filler in her lips but not a crazy amount. The shape is a bit different than it used to be, and not in the usual way of aging where they’re just a bit less full. The actual shape appears changed.
Another wrote,
She had that frozen Botox look. She has less wrinkles now, which is a dead giveaway she’s had work done. Sometimes she looks like she has too much fillers in her face.
If you don’t buy their opinions, take a look at what plastic surgery expert Katherine Millar-Shannon has said about the subtle works that Mariska Hargitay has had,
It seems she’s had Botox injected in her top lip so her gums aren’t as noticeable, and her nose lines appear to have been treated with Botox to make them less visible. Also, her cheeks may have been filled with dermal fillers for fuller appearance.
