Mary Lou Retton’s fans want to know if she had had plastic surgery and if that’s the reason that she looks completely different from before. They seek her before and after pictures but the retired gymnast does not appear to have had work done. She seems to have aged naturally which is why she looks unrecognizable with wrinkles and lines and all. She looks different but natural. Mary Lou Retton has never addressed the curiosity of her fans regarding her plastic surgery.
Mary Lou Retton is one of the most inspirational and skilled gymnasts that America has ever seen. She is ground-breaking in that she became the first American woman to win the individual all-around gold medal in Olympic gymnastics when she earned a perfect score of 10 in the vault in the final event at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. She also won two silver medals and two bronze medals in individual and team competitions.
That gold medal was a historic win for America and her performance then made her one of the most popular athletes in the United States. The whole country was sad to learn when she decided to retire after winning her third American Cup title in 1985. Even though Mary Lou Retton is retired now, she is remembered with a lot of reverence and fondness. She was inducted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame in 1997.
She is very inspirational in that she has paved the path for generations of female gymnasts who look up to her. Even though she has been retired for years now, she has a decent social media presence which has garnered her a lot of Gen-Z followers who can’t help but wonder about her plastic surgery status. Also, some people think she has ruined her face with bad cosmetic surgery as she looks completely unrecognizable. So, what’s the truth? Let’s discuss Mary Lou Retton’s plastic surgery!

Has Mary Lou Retton (@marylouretton) had plastic surgery or has she aged naturally? Her social media followers are curious to know that because it’s kind of a thing these days to speculate about whether or not celebrities had cosmetic surgery. The era of aging gracefully and naturally has gone and getting work done to not age is so common that people just can’t help themselves from wondering.
Fans often seek her before and after pictures and on seeing photos from when she was younger side-by-side with her recent photos, people are always disappointed because she does not look like she used to. While some are not fond of the fact that Mary Lou Retton does not look youthful anymore and looks old which she is, by the way, some think that she has gotten bad plastic surgery because she looks unrecognizable, completely different from before.
There’s no winning for the retired gymnast because it could be either thing, that she chose to age naturally in which case people are disappointed that she has not been able to maintain herself and that at 55, she does not look like she did in her prime, or that she did get plastic surgery because she didn’t want to look old (her age) in which case people criticize her for getting work done and not aging naturally. That’s what is happening right now.
Looking at Mary Lou Retton’s before and after pictures, because she looks different than before (of course, she is going to look different than before), people either think that she has let herself go and failed to maintain herself and retain her looks from when she was young or they think that her face has changed and looks different because she got bad plastic surgery. Whatever they think, they are not happy with the way she looks which is fine because Mary does not need to look the way others want her to but all the criticisms she gets either way are just too much.

In reality, it looks as though Mary Lou Retton has not had plastic surgery. She appears as though she has chosen to age naturally from how her face has lots of wrinkles and lines. It’s not because of cosmetic surgery that she looks different. But can we really be sure about that one until she herself opens up about it? So far, she has not, and not that she needs to, but the point is we will not know if she has had work done until she decides that she wants to share that.
Mary Lou Retton may not have had plastic surgery but she did get total hip replacement surgery after she was diagnosed with hip dysplasia, which is a hereditary abnormal formation of the hip joint. It caused her so much debilitating pain that she was unable to perform daily tasks. So, she went ahead with the surgery in 2005 when her left hip was replaced with Biomet’s M2a-Magnum™ metal-on-metal hip replacement system.
I am pain-free and can’t thank Biomet enough for changing my life. My new M2a-Magnum™ hip has truly exceeded my expectations.
