Sammy Sosa's Plastic Surgery: What Happened to the Former Cubs Icon's Skin? Does He Have Vitiligo or Is It Bleached Skin or Cosmetic Surgery?

Sammy Sosa was believed to have had plastic surgery when his skin turned from brown color into a shockingly white color. Does he have vitiligo? Some wondered while thinking about what happened to his skin. While others thought that he must have bleached his skin. As it turns out, Sammy Sosa did not have vitiligo or any kind of plastic surgery, he just used a cream that bleached his skin.

Sammy Sosa is a Dominican-American former professional baseball right fielder. He is one of the best ones as he showed in his career playing in Major League Baseball (MLB) for 19 seasons. He played primarily with the Chicago Cubs. He was with the Texas Rangers and Chicago White Sox prior to that. He only joined the Cubs in 1992 and it was then that he reached his peak and came to be regarded as one of the game’s best hitters. He hit his 400th home run in his 1,354th game and his 5,273rd at-bat, reaching this milestone quicker than any player in National League history. He is one of the only nine players in MLB history to hit 600 career home runs.

Now, he’s retired but one sad thing about that is he is no longer remembered and celebrated for his records and games and home runs. All people discuss is what happened to his skin. They always want to know why his skin has turned from brown color to sickly pinkish. Most of them think that it’s some plastic surgery while others suspect that it could be vitiligo or some skin bleaching. Turned out that it was not Sammy Sosa’s plastic surgery or vitiligo that was responsible for his complexion change but his skin bleaching.

Sammy Sosa’s Plastic Surgery: The Former Baseball Player Did Not Have Cosmetic Surgery, He Just Bleached His Skin!

Sammy Sosa has had a massive transformation in terms of his appearance. He looks nothing like the way he did in the 1990s. And no, it’s not because he’s aged or because he got plastic surgery to not age. The change in his appearance is because of the change in his skin color. He literally changed his color and left his fans confused about how he went from being a brown-skinned guy to a pale one. Like someone on the internet pointed out, the new him does not even look related to his old self. He has been battling criticisms about his skin color since then.

The former baseball player debuted his new skin color in 2009 at an award function. That year, when he arrived at the Latin Grammy Awards, nobody could recognize him because he looked like a different person with that pale skin. He was as white as a ghost and people started to ignore him. They were shocked when they realized that it was Sammy Sosa. People generally assume that celebrities might get rid of the wrinkles and lines on their faces as they age but Sosa, he got rid of the color of his skin. He really made people miss critiquing bad plastic surgery on aging celebrities. Or did he?

After Sammy Sosa became frighteningly white, he became the topic of curiosity in social media. What has he done to himself? What has happened to him? Is it some kind of plastic surgery or is it vitiligo or is it the side effects of steroids? The rumor that he underwent a procedure to bleach his skin started going around.

Looking at how different Sammy Sosa looks compared to his photos from the past, plastic surgery is not out of the speculation but people always think about his bleached skin all the time. He was even accused of being racist because why did he change his color and what was so wrong with being brown-skinned that you had to change your color?

But friends came to his defense and one former Cubs employee said that he didn’t actually look the way he did in the pictures of him taken at the Latin Grammy Awards. Another friend tried to assure that it was just the lighting around the cameras that produced an effect on the photo.

Sammy Sosa was mocked and called Michael Jackson because he went pale like this too. But his close friend defended him and said that he was not trying to be Michael Jackson and that he just did some plastic surgery procedure to rejuvenate his skin which left him that pale and white. However, as per them, he would soon return to his normal shade.

Well, that turned out to be bullsh*t because Sammy Sosa hasn’t yet returned to his normal shade and still has that weird pale complexion. Did he continue with the plastic surgery procedures? It was told that the former MLB star had all these procedures because he wanted to fix his skin which he thought had been damaged after playing under the sun for many years.

But really, what could change one’s appearance so dramatically by turning dark brown skin into a completely white complexion? Sammy Sosa said that skin bleaching cream is what did it. No plastic surgery, no vitiligo, just him and skin bleaching. He also noted that his lightened skin tone was an unintended side effect of the cream and unrelated to race. In an interview with Univision, he said,

It’s a bleaching cream that I apply before going to bed and whitens my skin tone. It’s a cream that I have, that I use to soften [my skin], but has bleached me some. I’m not a racist, I live my life happily.

To those who criticized him for bleaching his skin in the first place and whitening it, Sammy Sosa said,

What happened was that I had been using the cream for a long time and that, combined with the bright TV lights, made my face look whiter than it really is. I don’t think I look like Michael Jackson.

The criticisms and jokes never stopped coming because Sammy Sosa never stopped with the skin bleaching. Why couldn’t he have gotten some bad plastic surgery like a normal celebrity? He had to have vitiligo-looking bleached skin that always drew criticism. But he never seemed to bother because as he said in a 2018 interview with NBC Sports Chicago, he is healthy and didn’t care for all the hate he was receiving for what he was doing because

Those people they sometimes criticize me, they don’t know me, they don’t put food on my table and they don’t pay my bills.
