Viola Davis looked incredible after the weight loss transformation she had to play the role of a warrior in The Woman King. Check out her before and after weight loss pictures, her diet plan, and her workout routine.

Viola Davis is unarguably one of the most fantastic actresses in Hollywood. She’s the sole African-American to achieve the Triple Crown of Acting (an Oscar, an Emmy, and a Tony). It can’t get better than that, except she’s an EGOT winner now, having won a Grammy Award for Best Audiobook for her memoir Finding Me.

Throughout her career, she has dazzled us with her incredible performances in small-stage productions, movies, television, and theaters. She has portrayed, most brilliantly, the roles of Tonya in the 2001 Broadway production of August Wilson‘s King Hedley II, a troubled mother in the drama Doubt, and Rose Maxson in the Broadway revival of Fences.

Viola Davis has also starred as a 1960s housemaid in the comedy-drama The Help, Annalise Keating in the ABC drama series How to Get Away with Murder, and Ma Rainey in the biopic Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. Her most recent performance in The Woman King earned her a nomination for the BAFTA Best Actress Award.

Her performance was mind-blowing in the movie and so was her physicality in the film. She not only had a weight loss to look the part of a warrior but she had to build her muscles as well. A lot of effort went behind the scenes for that incredible transformation to look fit and strong for The Woman King. She did a lot of workouts and changed her diet. Viola Davis (@violadavis) is truly the epitome of strength and beauty and she looked like it in The Woman King. It’s not an overstatement to say that she’s never looked better than now in he entire career. With the incredible shape she has now, viewers are now checking out her workout and diet that she followed for her weight loss. It’s not just her performance that is keeping her in the news these days, though that’s enough in itself.

As Viola Davis played a warrior in the action-packed film The Woman King, she had to look the part and for that, she had to undergo a physical transformation. Having gained a little bit of weight for her 2021 role as Ma Rainey in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and during the lockdown in the pandemic, Davis had to have a weight loss to get in shape to resemble a warrior.  She had to train to gain more muscle and push herself to a new level of strength, power, and health.

And she did. Gabriela Mclain turned the vision the filmmakers had for the fighters of The Woman King into a reality. Under her supervision, the female-led cast of the movie worked incredibly hard to look the part. And that’s how Viola Davis had that shape after the weight loss transformation that everyone is talking about now. Let’s see in detail the intense workout plan and her diet!

Firstly, her diet! Viola Davis could not continue with her usual meals if she wanted to have weight loss. Mclain, at the beginning of 2021, said that she was in regular Viola shape and that she ate clean and was disciplined and trained three times a week but she had her eat cleaner and train harder. She had to undo what she did for Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, so Mclain led Davis through high-intensity interval workouts and put her on a high-protein, plant-centric diet. She was close to 200 pounds for the biopic. She had to put in the work.

Because weight loss was not the sole goal and Viola Davis had to gain muscles as well, trainer Mclain had The Help star eat more throughout her day. She had to increase her diet and for that, she ate five meals a day. She had to eat every three hours and drink a gallon of water a day. The diet plan worked out great for her because she looks healthier than ever and there’s a kind of strength and power in her that’s almost palpable.

Besides the diet, the How to Get Away with Murder actress did that functional fitness training as well to mimic real-life strength scenarios. Mclain had Viola Davis and her castmates do functional movements such as weight lifting, high-intensity workouts, and strength training, on a regular basis to prepare for the days full of movement on set. No wonder she underwent that weight loss and that beautiful transformation.

Viola Davis trained under the supervision of Mclain multiple times a week. She did a variety of exercises and workouts. In preparation for The Woman King, she did a cardio kickboxing-style workout. She worked on strength, heavy weights, medicine balls, lots of legs, upper body, and always core. She also tried to build strong and fast legs with the help of a resistance band and ankle weights while kicking. And that’s the secret of her weight loss and muscle gain and the look and the physicality in The Woman King.
