Why Did Jenna Marbles Leave YouTube? Reddit Discusses the Controversy!

Getting over 1.7 billion video views, and being loved by over 20 million subscribers, Jenna Marbles had a massive fanbase in her YouTube journey. Although it took her years and years to collect and gain those enormous numbers of views and subscribers, she was earning pretty decent fame and money.

Her YouTube journey might have begun before, but 2010 plays a significant role in Jenna’s life. Her video, “How to Trick People into Thinking You’re Good Looking” was viewed around 5.3 million times in its first week, resulting in increased subscribers and views.

Born on 15th September 1986 in Rochester, New York, United States, Jenna Nicole Mourey who is famous as Jenna Marbles spent a decade on her YouTube Journey. She has a Bachelor of  Science in psychology from Suffolk University and a Master of Education in sport psychology and counseling from Boston University. Marbles didn’t have a privileged life and was bound to work to support herself financially. She worked as a bartender, dancer, and vlogger, and made money which somehow sustained her life.

In 2010, Marbles’ video gained a lot of views, and the next year, her video, “How to Avoid Talking to People You Don’t Want to Talk To” went viral and was, therefore, featured in The New York Times and ABC News. In this particular video, Jenna’s line, “I’m sick and tired of guys thinking that just because I showed up at a club or a dance or a bar I want to have their genitalia touching my backside” gained limelight and when the videos were going viral, Marbles’ mother was unemployed and was seeking a job. This raised a sense of concern in Jenna’s mother as when she looked up the word ‘Mourey’ in Google, this resulted in showing the video where her daughter talked about genitals. Therefore, Jenna adopted a pseudonym and kept her name as Jenna Marbles where Marbles is Jenna’s dog.

Even after following a long path to YouTube, why did Jenna Marbles wave goodbye to her YouTube Journey? The answer is simple; it’s the cancel culture. Everything cycles back to 2011. The same year that gave her a future, and the same year that took away her YouTube career. Jenna Marbles posted a video where she impersonated Nicki Minaj and rapped lyrics about Asians. She had put on a pink wig and had darkened her skin tone, which in her perspective was trying to look like Nicki Minaj.

This video questioned Jenna Marbles and gave her severe hatred. Marbles even posted an apology video on her YouTube channel where she replayed the clip of her wearing a pink wig. She proceeded to say, “It was not my intention to do blackface. For now, I just can’t exist on this channel. I’ve taken down anything that would upset someone. And I hope you know that’s just not my intention. It’s never what I set out to do, to hurt anyone’s feelings or to make anyone feel bad. I’m going to move on from this channel for now. I don’t know if that’s forever. I don’t know how long it’s gonna be. I just want to make sure that the things I’ve put into the world are not hurting anyone.”

While the cancel culture put a full stop to Jenna’s YouTube career, she is still in hot controversy on Reddit. Even today, there are many people on Reddit who still wishes to see Marbles back on YouTube. Moreover, Reddit fans are curious to know if Marbles will ever make a comeback to YouTube.
