But to let you know, this is not the first time that Alicia has become the victim of body shaming. She previously discussed the body-shaming she endured while playing Batgirl in the 1997 film Batman & Robin in a TikTok video. During the making of the Joel Schumacher superhero picture, she was only 19 years old. She was also just off the set of her big break in the 1995 film Clueless.
However, despite Alicia Silverstone’s small stature, the media shamed the actress for her figure when Batman & Robin finally premiered. Following the release of Clueless, various publications made fun of her body, just as she was at the pinnacle of her career. Throughout the years, the actress has spoken out against body shaming in various interviews.
Despite the body-shaming she endured, the Batgirl actress was named the Sexiest Female Vegetarian by PETA in 2004, and she appeared naked in a PETA print advertisement in 2007. While the actress wasn’t confused by the body-shaming and recognized it was not right, that type of scrutiny can have a big impact on anyone.
Similarly, Alicia Silverstone also discussed body-shaming as Batgirl in Batman & Robin in a TikTok video shared via Twitter. In a video duet, she and the TikTok user reference a 1996 Entertainment Weekly article titled A Weighty Issue, in which the actress was compared to Babe the Pig and said she appeared to be shrinking quickly for her role as Batgirl. However, the TikToker then sought an apology from the media for referring to her as a fat girl.
During the interview, the actress also discussed the 1996 piece, saying that the ridicule made her want to give up acting entirely. The actress even stated that if she had known that acting would mean she would be called fat, she would have had no interest in being famous or maintaining any kind of fame.
However, Silverstone has since continued her acting career, appearing in a number of films and television shows. However, when it comes to body-shaming about her weight gain, the actress believes it doesn’t seem like the right thing to be doing to a human.
According to the TikTok video above, Alicia Silverstone was probably around 130 pounds during the filming of Batman & Robin. However, the media pursued her by bringing up her weight because she had a full-figured face. As she points out, making fun of someone’s body form is wrong. While the actress was devastated by the weight gain and body-shaming, she never allowed it to affect her emotionally, and she’s come out stronger.
