John Lodge's Family: Meet His Wife Kirsten and 2 Kids

The world of music lost a legend with the passing of John Lodge, the iconic bassist and vocalist of The Moody Blues, but the personal world he built with his loved ones remains a powerful part of his legacy. For over five decades, Lodge was not just a “singer in a rock and roll band” but a dedicated family man whose greatest source of joy was his wife, kids, and grandchildren.

His journey through rock stardom was uniquely grounded by the enduring love and stability he found at home, a testament to a man whose heart was as big offstage as it was on. The heartfelt announcement of his passing on October 10, 2025, painted a beautiful picture of a man whose world revolved around them, sharing that he was “never happier than being on stage,” but that his “enduring love of his wife, Kirsten, and his family, that was the most important thing to him.”

John’s own story began when he married his wife, Kirsten Lodge, on September 10, 1968. Their partnership was a lifelong duet, lasting an incredible 57 years until his death and serving as the foundation upon which he built his life. Together, they welcomed two children, a daughter named Emily and a son named Kristian.

Lodge’s devotion to his family was so profound that it even inspired his music. When his daughter Emily was born, he penned the tender lullaby “Emily’s Song” for her, which found a permanent home on The Moody Blues’ 1971 album, Every Good Boy Deserves Favour. This personal touch showed a side of the rock star that fans cherished—a doting father whose love knew no bounds.

The Lodge Family Today

The Lodges have since grown and evolved, sharing in John’s passions and supporting his musical endeavors. His daughter, Emily Lodge, has followed a path in the arts, often stepping into a managerial role for her father’s projects. In a beautiful twist of fate, music brought the family even closer when Emily married Jon Davison, the lead vocalist of the progressive rock band Yes. The couple tied the knot in December 2022, and Davison became a regular collaborator with his father-in-law, touring with Lodge and even co-writing songs.

John’s son, Kristian Lodge, also shares his father’s musical talent, having contributed lead guitar on his track “In These Crazy Times,” which was recorded during the COVID-19 lockdowns. Their creative spirit doesn’t stop there; the Lodges also include a grandson named John-Henry. In their statement, the family shared a touching detail about John’s love for watching his grandson play football and dreaming of seeing him play for Birmingham City one day, the very team Lodge supported his entire life.

A Legacy of Love and Faith

Beyond the bright lights of the stage, John Lodge’s personal life was anchored by two powerful forces: his deep love for his family and his strong evangelical Christian faith. He often spoke publicly about how his belief helped him navigate the excesses and challenges of the rock and roll lifestyle, providing him with a moral compass that kept him grounded. This foundation of faith created a stable and loving environment that defined him.

The final image his family shared of his passing was profoundly moving and perfectly captured his essence: John Lodge “peacefully slipped away, surrounded by his loved ones and the sounds of The Everly Brothers and Buddy Holly.” It was a serene farewell for a man who gave so much music to the world and who, in his final moments, was surrounded by the two things he cherished most—the rock and roll that sparked his career and the loved ones that filled his heart.
