Jrue Holiday’s Wife, Lauren Holiday, Was Previously Diagnosed With Cancer in 2015!
Jrue Holiday‘s wife, Lauren Holiday (@laurenholiday12), was indeed battled with cancer in 2015. However, she later underwent surgery in October 2016 to remove a benign brain tumor. And Jrue, who was still with the New Orleans Pelicans at the time, took about a month off to care for his wife.
Likely, the former United States women’s national team football player was also diagnosed with a meningioma in June of that same year. At the time, she had herself tested after suffering from terrible headaches. The MRI later revealed why she was experiencing such severe headaches.

Jrue Holiday was reportedly concerned about his wife’s numbness on the right side of her brain even before the MRI results came in. Her situation was exacerbated further by the fact that she was pregnant with their son, Jrue Tyler Holiday. Later, she gave birth to the couple’s son in September same year. But a month later, she had to have surgery to remove the brain tumor
Fortunately, the New Orleans Pelicans were on break during the latter stages of her pregnancy and delivery. Jrue Holiday stayed by his wife’s side the entire time. Likely, he also missed the start of the regular season while his wife recovered from the surgery.
Four months after the operation, Jrue Holiday’s wife posted a lengthy, heartwarming even brave message on Instagram, stating, “I have never quite known suffering like I experienced the last 6 months. I can remember countless nights repeating ‘there may be pain in the night but joy comes in the morning.’ I remember half believing it and half still in disbelief that this was my life. I memorized scripture and some days my faith felt unshakable and others I was scared to death.”
Lauren continued:
Every time I see this smile I’m reminded that joy does come in the morning. Maybe not the next day, maybe not even the next month but it comes. I can’t imagine what heaven will be like if this is the joy I get to experience on earth.
However, seven months after the operation, Jrue Holiday’s wife finally uploaded a selfie of herself on Instagram in May 2017. She had a powerful Mother’s Day message to accompany it: “I have been hiding myself from a camera for the past 7 months. I didn’t want anyone to see my paralyzed face, my eye that is now crossed, the bald spots from radiation & my half-shaved head.
She went on to say, “Today reminded me just how incredibly strong women are.” Our bodies’ resilience, our minds’ power, our ability to put other humans first, our caring hearts, and, most importantly, our unwavering love for our families, friends, and darling newborns. Then she added,
I went through the day admiring women at church, at lunch and those just walking down the street. I am so proud to be a daughter, a sister, an aunt, a wife and most of all a mother.

Lauren Holiday, who was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, began playing football as a child after watching her brother play the sport. She played on male teams until she was 12 years old. Later, she was selected as the most valuable offensive player at Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis in 2004-05. Furthermore, the Indianapolis Star selected her Metro Player of the Year in 2004.
Lauren Holiday was inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame in May 2023.
