The 34-year-old portrait photographer weighed nearly 400 pounds in March 2022, until a vacation to Disneyland revealed her she needed to change her life. Rather than spending the day with her sister, brother-in-law, and young nephew, she found herself isolated at a table, overwhelmed by the heat and incapacitated by a bad migraine, which was exacerbated by her weight.

Not being able to spend the day with her nephew made her reconsider her decisions. To her, her nephew was her favorite person in the world, and being an aunt was one of the greatest joys of her life, Leah Hope added. He is a major motivator for her desire to improve her health and become a better version of herself. That day at Disneyland she decided to make a change. She exclusively disclosed to People,

I realized I cannot keep living this way. I don’t want to experience things like this. I don’t want to miss out on things with my nephew. I want to be able to live a full life.

Following the trip, Leah Hope began making incremental, long-term adjustments to her daily routine. She shifted away from the radical all-or-nothing strategy she had previously adopted. Her first goal was to consume at least one healthful meal every day, beginning with eggs. She also started an exercise routine, walking for 10 minutes at a time, gradually increasing the length of her walks. Later, she stated,

I started out very small so that it didn’t feel overwhelming to me. The ultimate goal was to change my life forever, not just change it for a season. To avoid feeling stressed out, I started out very small. “The ultimate goal was to change my life forever, not just change it for a season.

Leah Hope kept a food journal for the first month and recorded everything she ate. By the second month, she was ready to establish precise goals, such as walking 8,000 steps per day. As a result, she has shed 185 pounds with calorie counting and movement since starting this journey a year ago. She describes the experience as enlightening and uplifting. She explained

I did not expect this to be so much of an emotional and mental journey, but it has been. I have grown so much more emotionally and mentally than I have physically. Conquering the mindset that I had for most of my life and retraining my thought process has definitely been the hardest part.

Furthermore, Leah Hope has also used TikTok to tell her story. She claimed she had spent her entire life pretending her weight was unimportant. She never mentioned it or brought it up. So it was difficult for her to decide to make the thing she had spent her entire life avoiding the first thing that people saw and heard.

Leah Hope said that her decision to share her experience was motivated by the desire to inspire others and demonstrate that weight loss without surgery is feasible for some people. She even said that she attributes her enhanced life to feeling healthier, having more meaningful relationships, and widening her horizons. She continued,

I don’t want to be a before and after. That’s not what I am interested in. I am interested in continuously growing and becoming a better and healthier version of myself for as long as I can. I will never be after. I will never be done.

Can We Lose Weight by Only Walking?

You might be able to lose weight this way, depending on how long and how intensively you walk, as well as the quality of your food. A combination of physical activity and calorie restriction appears to aid with weight loss more than exercise alone.

Physical activity, such as walking, is beneficial for weight control because it helps you burn calories. You could burn roughly 150 additional calories per day if you added 30 minutes of vigorous walking to your usual regimen. Of course, the more calories you burn, the more you walk and the faster you walk.

However, balance is essential. Excessive exercise might increase your chances of pain, injury, and burnout. If you’re new to regular exercise, you may need to begin with short walks or light walking and then progress to longer walks or more moderate or vigorous walking.
