houseandwhips.com – Sean Astin has not had weight gain recently. He’s just been this fat for a long time. He’s supposedly 75 pounds heavier than how he was in his Goonies and Rudy days. Losing and gaining weight for some roles messed up his metabolism and Sean Astin has not been able to undo his weight gain since.

Sean Astin, the son of actress Patty Duke, is as incredible at acting as his mother. He rose to popularity and gained a large fan following with the acting roles of Mikey Walsh in The Goonies, Daniel Ruettiger in Rudy, and Billy Tepper in Toy Soldiers. As for establishing himself as an esteemed and serious actor, he did that by playing the roles of Samwise Gamgee in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Lynn McGill in the fifth season of 24, and Oso in Special Agent Oso.

Sean Astin has a great mix of serious roles and commercial lighthearted roles which include the roles of Doug Whitmore in 50 First Dates, Bill in Click, Raphael in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Bob Newby in the second season of Netflix’s Stranger Things, and Ed in No Good Nick. He has earned various accolades such as a Screen Actors Guild Award and two Young Artist Awards and a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film in 1994 for the short film Kangaroo Court. As accomplished as he is, let’s talk about his weight gain today!

Previously, we touched on the weight gain stories of Steve Wright and Travis Kelce.

Sean Astin’s Weight Gain: Has He Put On Weight Recently?

Sean Astin (@seanastin) once piled on a lot of weight and never slimmed down. He never undid that weight gain and he’s been overweight since then.

It’s unfortunate that Sean’s acting is always overshadowed by people’s preoccupation with his weight but it is what it is. He’s humongous and the fact that he is heavy can hardly go unnoticed when he has the physique that he does. It’s not unusual for the speculations of his weight gain to rise unexpectedly time and again. It’s just that he wasn’t always fat the way he is now and sometimes, looking at him, it makes people wonder how he bulked up that massively.

Well, the story of how Sean Astin got heavy is that his body could never recover from when he gained about 35 pounds for the role of Samwise Gamgee for The Lord of the Rings trilogy. If you remember him from his Goonies, Rudy, and Toy Soldiers days (these are the movies that put him on the map), you know that he used to be quite the hunk. He was handsome and ripped. Now, about two decades later, people never talk about how good-looking he is, only about how he had weight gain.

Let’s get into it! Sean Astin has addressed all the curiosity surrounding his weight in his autobiography There and Back Again. From what he shared in his memoir, we can easily gather that he struggles with his weight big time and he’s not happy about the fact that he ended up being that overweight when he never had issues with his weight in the first place. What happened with his weight gain was totally avoidable yet, it happened. He seems to regret how he never managed to undo what happened.

So, what happened was that he was as fit as they come while doing Toy Soldiers but things started to spiral afterward when he took a role of a junkie in an indie film Where the Day Takes You, a movie about a group of teens living on the streets of LA. He had to look emaciated to play the role so, he lost a lot of weight. What he did to lose weight messed up his metabolism and he ended up gaining too much weight too soon. That’s the beginning of Sean Astin‘s weight gain.

Astin’s struggled with his weight since then. It got worse when he gained weight for The Lord of the Rings trilogy. He, a lover of long-distance running and marathons, had to quit it and had to eat fattening food in order to gain weight. He piled on a lot of weight then and he has never come back from it. He has never gone back to his original weight since then. He has not slimmed down like he must have wanted to. Sean Astin failed to undo his weight gain.

He’s now supposedly 75 pounds heavier than when he was a fit man doing movies like Rudy and Goonies at 225 pounds. He has mentioned doing marathons but it’s not really working for him because he’s been consistent in being overweight for a long time now. That’s all there is to Sean Astin’s weight gain.
