houseandwhips.com – Imelda Staunton insists that she would never get plastic surgery because ‘why would you inject yourself with poison’? The actress shared that she would never consider surgery because she has seen what people with botched procedures look like. Also, Imelda Staunton, as a character actress, has never had to rely on her looks so, she doesn’t feel the pressure to get plastic surgery as a maintenance.
Imelda Staunton is a very accomplished actress. She is very precise and subtle in her emoting and that alone sets her apart from the rest. You can see a single performance of her just once and you would have no trouble believing that she has four Laurence Olivier Awards to her name. She won the three for Best Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical for her performance in the musicals Sweeney Todd, Into the Woods, and Gypsy. Another one, she got for Best Performance in a Supporting Role in a Play for her role in A Chorus of Disapproval and The Corn Is Green.
Even though Imelda Staunton is widely recognized as Dolores Umbridge from the Harry Potter films, her performance in other movies such as Antonia and Jane, Peter’s Friends, Sense and Sensibility, and Shakespeare in Love is something to watch because she is just marvelous at those. She did a very good job of portraying Queen Elizabeth II in the final two seasons of The Crown as well. She was nominated for the British Academy Television Award for Best Actress and the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress. She’s receiving a lot of attention because of it and that has led to discussions of her plastic surgery!
Previously, we touched on the plastic surgery stories of Suranne Jones and Michelle Mone.
Imelda Staunton’s Plastic Surgery: She Has Aged Naturally!
Imelda Staunton has not had plastic surgery and would never have it because she’s not up for what she considers injecting yourself with poison. She probably meant Botox and fillers but we can tell that her attitude toward surgical procedures is not going to be different.

The Crown star had formed her opinions of cosmetic surgery decades ago. She had already started to age by then and even then, she preferred to let nature take its course rather than try to hold on to her youth for just a little bit longer by having cosmetic treatments. She chose to grow old and look her age above getting plastic surgery to fight aging because she didn’t love the idea of it. In a 2010 interview, when Imelda Staunton was asked how she felt about cosmetic surgery, she said
I wouldn’t consider it for myself, not in a million years. You read about poor people having Botox go wrong and you think: “Well, what the bloody hell were you doing?” Why would you inject yourself with poison? And why are we spending so much time looking at ourselves? I just don’t get it.
The actress seemed to have been turned off by the idea of getting plastic surgery because of people who came off looking worse than before, very unnatural and plastic after their Botox went wrong. She basically compared having Botox and fillers to injecting yourself with poison. You can see why she would think so after seeing people with botched-up cosmetic procedures.

Even if there was no such thing as plastic surgery going wrong and botched, she still wouldn’t get cosmetic surgery because she is not preoccupied with her appearance enough to take the extra measure of getting injections or going under the knife instead of just aging naturally. As Imelda Staunton said, she does not understand why people are spending so much time looking at themselves. Maybe if people stopped doing that, they would not feel the need to go under the knife to fine-tune their appearance. They would rise above plastic surgery.
Also, it’s not just that. Staunton has largely been able to avoid the pressure to maintain herself, which means the pressure to look young and not age, that is so prevalent in showbiz because she had never had to depend on her looks for her career. She’s a character actress and she was never required to be glamorous. All that was needed for her to get roles was her acting skills, which she has in abundance. So, she never needed to partake in the rampant plastic surgery trend. As Imelda Staunton said,
I’m a character actor and have never had to rely on my looks. That has paid off the older I get.
When she was asked about how she maintains her appearance naturally, she said,
I b*****y love sleep. If I could have 72 hours a night I would.
So far, just a beauty sleep has been good enough for Imelda Staunton. She looks her age and she looks fine. I don’t know that she will ever feel the need to get plastic surgery as she ages further.
