However, the singer’s plan backfired on her as stans didn’t eat up her leaking the DMs that showed her partner in a positive light. Fans just said that Bebe Rexha got too sensitive about her weight gain.
So, you may or may not be able to name five of Bebe Rexha‘s songs but most likely, you will be able to tell she’s very sensitive about her weight because she is very much outspoken about body issues and because of how much she brings her weight in conversation. Not that talking about her physicality is wrong in any way but her, let’s call it obsession, with weight comes from an unhealthy place and she’s really not in a place where she can separate genuine concerns over her weight gain from fat-shaming.
That was very obvious from the DM that she leaked on the internet to get back at her boyfriend for saying that she had had weight gain. It seems as if she has lost the ability to handle it gracefully when her weight is mentioned even when it is done out of concern and not to fat-shame her. The I Got You hitmaker just made headlines after she shared on TikTok that she is contemplating skipping the 2023 MTV Video Awards with her because she is anxious and feeling nervous about people discussing her weight gain. Earlier this year, she said that the search phrase “bebe rexha weight” was”upsetting” because she did gain weight and it sucked. In June, she responded to more weight-related searches on TikTok by saying that she was in her fat era.
The singer seemed very aware that she had gained weight but if she asks, never tell because that’s what her boyfriend (now ex) did and she put his DM on the internet of him talking about her weight gain for everyone to see and possibly to put him on blast because why else would a public figure make a private message sent by a non-famous person public and show it in a negative light? She had intended for her stans to brutalize him but that backfired because the DM showed that he was not the one being unreasonable.
The message that Bebe Rexha took a screenshot of and posted on her Instagram story, the one that her ex-partner of three years Keyan Safyari, seemed to him apologizing to her after he commented on her weight gain after she asked him to. The DM started with him saying that he never said that she wasn’t beautiful or he didn’t love her (because she put on a few pounds). She appeared to be upset with him because he said, ‘yes, you gained weight’ when she asked him about it.
Bebe probably expected him to be like ‘no, you haven’t’ even though the truth was that she had put on 35 pounds and when Keyan didn’t respond like she expected him to, she got mad. So, in the DM, Keyan said that while he loved her and found her beautiful, he was not going to lie that she looked the same after her weight gain if she asked him. He said that he was always going to be honest if her face was changing and that the drastic fluctuation in his weight had changed her a lot. Bebe Rexha probably didn’t mean it when she told him to be completely honest with her about her weight.
I always said I would be honest with you and your face was changing so I told you it was…that was the conversation we were having and you asked. Because I care, would you rather I lied to you? You gained 35 pounds obviously you gained weight and your face changes? Should I pretend that it didn’t happen and that it’s ok?

Well, seeing how Bebe Rexha was so offended that she really tried to ruin his image and attempted to get him cyber-bullied by his fans for apparently being a fat-shamer (she had to have intended that by leaking the DM), yes, he ought to have pretended that she didn’t have weight gain and that 35 pounds made no difference in her. But he didn’t so, his girlfriend tried her best to make it look like he was a misogynistic jerk who committed a crime by calling spade a spade.
But that plan of Bebe Rexha really backfired on her because everyone’s takeaway from the DM was that Keyan was so understanding and kind and not at all judgmental when he commented on her weight gain. He even made sure to mention that she looked beautiful and he loved him even after she put on 35 pounds because these days, people think that gaining weight makes them unworthy of love so that topic should not be discussed solely.
What really got everyone on his side was when he wrote the following in his DM, he said,
Come on I gain 3 pounds and you call me chubbs and fat. Doesn’t mean you don’t love me. If you’re trying to find reason to break up this makes sense…but it’s not the real reason.
Oh my god! The hyper overreaction of Bebe Rexha to her then-boyfriend saying that she had had a weight gain only when asked when she thought nothing of her calling him chubbs and fat when he gained only 3 pounds. And the audacity of hers to try to defame him for this nothing issue (granted she is sensitive about her weight but what was she trying to accomplish by posting his DM that a direct conversation with him wouldn’t have). Never mind the stupidity of it all because clearly, the text message (specifically the above portion) didn’t show her in a great light.

In fact, if anything, it only rallied people against her and made him the internet’s favorite for a while. Also, we could tell that their relationship was in shambles when she posted the DM but it was not yet over and there were chances that they could work through their issues. But with the stunt Bebe pulled by leaking the DM seemingly trying to get public sympathy and leaving the man she had loved for 3 years out for the online bullies to get him ended their relationship once and for all.
Many people only said that Bebe Rexha lost a real one because of her own stupidity and that Keyan deserved someone better than her. The internet collectively agreed that Keyan was a very respectful man and very caring and thoughtful because of what he wrote in the DM.
