So, seeing Billy at the 2024 Grammy Awards perform has led many people to speculate if he’s had some cosmetic procedures. There was nothing about his appearance that suggested he had gone under the knife but it’s just that nowadays, the first thing people do when they see a celebrity is wonder if they are natural or they have had some tweaks because almost everyone in Hollywood has had plastic surgery and the general public gets curious about it.
Anyway, coming back to Billy Joel, he does not look like he has had any cosmetic procedures because had he had anything, he wouldn’t look like any regular 74-year-old man. The fact that he has aged and has plenty of wrinkles and lines on his face which reflects all the years and experiences he has lived is a giveaway that he is all-natural, isn’t it? Also, he has never seemed like someone who would get plastic surgery because he is not someone who’s preoccupied with his looks and as he said, does he even need it?
In a 1993 interview, Billy Joel, in response to a rumor that he had goaded his wife into going under the knife, basically said that he and any of his family members didn’t require cosmetic surgery.
It said I had been cruelly goading Christie about her looks, saying that she’s no spring chicken anymore, and I intimidated her so much that she went and got plastic surgery. Think about it: Who in this family needs plastic surgery?
However, that was more than three decades ago and you might be thinking that Billy Joel may have changed his mind about not needing cosmetic treatments since then. But no. It seems like he has been the same in his attitude towards cosmetic surgery in general. Aging has not brought any changes in his views about plastic surgery whatsoever. He did realize how aging had slowly taken his youth away but who would cope with it better than Joel who is one of the most secure and confident musicians?

In a 2019 interview, describing his experience growing old, he said,
This is a Peter Pan kinda job. You start out, and you’re young, and you’re rockin’ and rollin’, and that’s what you do all your life. You become a little myopic about how old you actually are. I see pictures of myself at the Garden recently, and I go, ‘That don’t look right.’ I got old, I lost my hair. I was never a matinee idol to begin with, and there I am onstage still doing the same job I was doing when I was 16.
Though Billy Joel was initially troubled by how he started to look as he got older, he never panicked that he was no longer young and did not give in to the pressure to get plastic surgery to hide his age. He said that it would be a ridiculous thing for him if he tried to change his appearance to look young like many other celebrities do because he has never been about his looks. With him, it’s always about his music so, he never felt the need to get cosmetic surgery.
I’ve always been a schlubby-looking guy, and I ain’t about to change. Plastic surgery, wigs, I don’t know. It has nothing to do with music. It’s all about an image and look. I am 70 years old. I’ve never hidden my age, so why should I start now?
Billy Joel’s opinions are pretty much a denial of his plastic surgery but some people don’t buy it. They don’t think that he is as self-assured about his looks as he tries to portray because they are convinced that he has had a nose job.
